Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

What is Ringtone ?

A ringtone or ring tone is the sound made by a telephone to indicate an incoming call. The term, however, is most often used to refer to the customizable sounds available on mobile phones. This facility was originally provided so that people would be able to determine when their phone was ringing when in the company of other mobile phone owners.[citation needed]

A phone only rings when a special "ringing signal" is sent to it. For landline telephones, the ringing signal is a 90-volt, 20-hertz, AC wave generated by the switch to which the telephone is connected. For mobile phones, the ringing signal is a specific radio-frequency signal.

A telephone ring is the sound generated when an incoming telephone call is received. The term originated from the fact that telephones notified the user to an incoming call by repeatedly striking a bell or bells, producing a ringing sound.

This "Magneto" bell system is still in widespread use; newer telephones use electronic sounders to produce other noises, but the term "ring" is still used. The ringing signal sent to a customer's telephone is AC at around 90 volts (at 20 hertz in North America, because of the use of 60 Hz mains; other regions with 50 Hz mains use 25 Hz); modern telephones electronically produce a warbling or chirping sound. The signal is sent for every ring and allows phone operators to provide several services with different kinds of rings (for example, rings with a shorter interval between them might be used to signal a call from a given number). When a home phone rings, it may carry Caller ID information and present it on a screen.

PT Telkomsel of Indonesia launches "1212 Nada Sambung Pribadi" ("Personal Connecting Tone")

Employing Cherrypicks' CRBT C&M platform, PT Telkomsel (Telkomsel) announced the commerciallaunch of "Nada Sambung Pribadi" ("Personal Connecting Tone") today. With this flexible platform, subscribers can easily select their favourite songs and put them into the personal music box. Once people call the mobile number, the caller will randomly listen to the songs contained in the music box. With this platform, content providers can also upload their songs easily through a web interface within a few clicks. This provides an extremely convenient way to enrich the song content.

"Telkomsel is the first telecom operator launching the Connecting Tone in Jakarta and its surrounding area (Jabotabek). This service will be extended to other cities in Indonesia phase by phase. During the initial launch, there are over 210 songs from Sony, Warner and Aquarius Music for Telkomsel users to choose from and set as Personal Connecting Tone.", said Mr. Donald Chan, VP of Cherrypicks.

The Connecting Tone service has had a trial launch on 19 August with 3 songs from 3 different artists, who are Audy, Glen Fredly and Sheila On 7. Over 100 complimentary SIM cards were distributed to the press for service trial. This innovative service is now offering to kartuHALO (postpaid) and simPATI (prepaid). New simPATI SIM cards pre-provisioned with this service. These SIM cards automatically enjoy 3 selected songs for free. What's more, existing kartuHALO and simPATI subscribers can activate the service by either sending an SMS (Short Message Service) or calling an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system with an access code 1212. Songs are charged per download for 30 days.
